Join us for the 38th Annual AFHE Home Education Convention!

Each year AFHE invites a great line-up of invigorating speakers to present two days of workshops covering a broad range of topics that will address your interests and needs! AFHE works with speakers who have a message of hope and encouragement with plenty of practical ideas and insight to help you as you teach, nurture, and guide your children. Our desire is for you to be refreshed, re-energized, strengthened, inspired, and full of fresh ideas for the year ahead.

You’ll find it helpful to review the workshop schedule ahead of time to get an idea of what’s being offered and to help plan which sessions you’d like to attend. Scroll down to view the schedule of events and learn more about this year’s speakers and other programming being offered in 2022.

Sessions Currently Scheduled
LaNissir James, High School Consultant from HSLDA will present:
  • Building on a Sure Foundation: Mission & Methods - For some families, high school at home is just around the corner. Other families bring teens home for all or part of high school years. This seminar builds a foundation to show the big picture for high school, explains important building blocks along the way, and provides resources you can draw from to meet the challenge.
  • Developing a Plan for High School: Sample Four-Year Plans - What plan would suit your high school student? What subjects do you teach and when? Do you follow a basic high school plan, a general college prep plan, or a rigorous college prep plan? This seminar will help organize your thoughts and lay the groundwork for a viable four-year plan. You’ll learn about high school credits, simplifying grading, and the fundamentals of recordkeeping – transcripts, extracurriculars, and diplomas.
  • High School Transcript Clinic: Practical Help and Tips - Creating a high school transcript is a vital part of maintaining your teen’s high school records. In this interactive, practical seminar, you’ll create a transcript that can be used as a pattern when designing your own. The session will guide you through the essentials of transcripts, how to evaluate credit, steps to simplify grading, and how to calculate grade point averages (GPAs).
Kathryn Graunke, "graduated" homeschool mom, support group leader, and STEM team coach, will present:
  • College Bound - Want to settle those fears about preparing your student for college? This seminar, customized for Arizona families, will provide you with the information and structure you need for creating a college-prep high school plan for your unique student. Kathryn will also address special topics for you to consider such as course selection, dual enrollment, NCAA, and transfer to universities.
  • You're Also the Guidance Counselor—Congratulations! - There are so many options for high school and beyond—how do I know what my child needs? It seems daunting, but this is an opportunity for significant communication and collaboration with your maturing student! This seminar will explore topics such as course choices (core subjects and elective), the benefits of eclectic schooling, how homeschoolers earn high school science credits, and career planning. You'll be excited by the possibilities stretching before your student in the high school years, and ready to help him or her get excited, too.

Speaker Inquiries

Speaking at the AFHE Convention is by invitation. We seek to engage speakers whose content and message fit AFHE’s philosophy, vision, and mission, and do not conflict with the AFHE Board of Directors’ biblical worldview.

As part of our careful speaker selection process, we will review speaker packets that are sent to us. Speaker packets are reviewed in August/ September for the following year’s AFHE Convention and selections are finalized before the end of the year. If we are interested in having you speak, we would contact you most likely in October or November.

Speaker packets should include biographical information, workshop titles and descriptions, and a recording or two of the speaker teaching for our review. Due to the high number of inquiries we receive, we are only able to follow up with those whom we invite to speak.
