The 2026 AFHE Art Contest is a celebration of creativity inspired by 250th anniversary of America's founding!

2026 AFHE Art Contest

Overview:

Students of AFHE members are invited to submit original artwork expressing the theme “America’s History and People.”

The contest is open to children and teens ages 5-18 (K through 12th grade).

Entry deadline is June 5, 2026. The entry form will allow entrants to upload a photo of the artwork for preliminary judging.

Ten finalists from each age/grade division will be selected to submit the actual artwork for the final round of judging, which will take place during the AFHE Convention.

Age divisions: Kindergarten (age 5-6); Early Elementary (age 6-9); Upper Elementary & Middle (age 10-13); High School (age 14-18)

Guidelines:

  • One entry per student.
  • All artwork must be original and created solely by the entering student.
  • Previously exhibited or published work is not eligible.
  • AFHE Convention attendance is not required, but AFHE membership must be current to enter the contest.
  • Accepted media: drawing (pencil, colored pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, pastel), painting (watercolor, acrylic, oil, tempera, gouache), mixed media (combinations of drawing and painting); photography and digital art not eligible for this contest
  • Size requirements: minimum 5″x7″; maximum 9″x12″
