2026 Dissection Lab Classes

Event Information:

Thursday, July 16, 2026

Phoenix Convention Center, South Building
33 South Third Street, 85004

Overview:

Fascinating and challenging, a DISSECTION LAB offers your student the classic opportunity to “do science” as he or she practices observation, identification, and analysis. What’s even better? “Doing science” with friends in a Christ-centered learning environment, led by an experienced college-level anatomy instructor.

Your student will:

  • learn dissection protocols and skills
  • practice careful observation of the dissection specimen
  • model the specimen organ in clay
  • draw the structures and features of the specimen organ
  • carefully dissect the specimen (two lab options; select one or both)
  • gain lab experience required by some college admissions
  • cultivate a deeper appreciation of God’s intricate work of creation!

Participation notes:

  • age 14+
  • AFHE membership required.
  • AFHE Convention registration is NOT required.

Option 1 - 8:30-10:30 AM

Science of the Human Body: All About the Eye

The Lord has given us such a gift in being able to see the world around us. Even Darwin himself denounced “natural selection’s” ability to form the intricacies of the human eye. We will be reminded that only the Lord Himself could knit together such a complicated anatomical structure. Participants will learn amazing facts about the human eye, how to draw the human eye, and build a model of the eye out of clay that they can take home. We complete our workshop by dissecting a preserved cow eye.
Cost: $25 per student
Ages 14 and up.
Limited to 65 participants.
AFHE MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.

Option 2 - 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

If I Only Had a Brain! Clay Lab and Dissection

The human brain is one of the most fascinating organs that the Lord created when He knit us together in our mother’s womb. Come see how the Creator designed the complicated and intricate brain during this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn how to draw the human brain, build it out of clay, AND they can take it home. We will finish our time together by dissecting a preserved sheep brain. Students will work in pairs for the dissection portion.
Cost: $35 per student
Ages 14 and up.
Limited to 65 participants.
AFHE MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.
