2009 AFHE State Leadership Conference Was an Outstanding Day!

Nearly 60 leaders from 17 homeschool groups from around the state joined us for the annual state leadership conference February 21, 2009. It was a really wonderful day!

We appreciate the sacrifice and hard work that each person involved in serving the homeschool community invests through their leadership positions in a local homeschool group. This conference is our opportunity each year to express our gratitute to leaders in person and to provide resources, encouragement, and information that will help you suceed and thrive as you serve.

The Support Group Spotlights were a wonderful new addition. It was very encouraging and helpful to hear a 2 minute presentation from each group about what they are doing, challenges they are having, and successes they are enjoying.

We also added a Town Hall Q&A session. A lot of great ideas and experiences were shared in this interactive Town Hall discussion format!

The Windemere did a great job for us again. We appreciate their excellent service, attention to detail, beautiful facility, and delicious food.

We enjoyed having Tj Schmidt, HSLDA Staff Attorney, as our guest speaker. Tj shared examples of several legal cases involving homeschoolers around the country ... some good, some bad, and some ugly ... which was a good reminder of why we need to be vigilant and attentive to potential threats to our freedom to teach our children at home. Tj also shared some excellent pointers on how to deal with a social worker if contacted by one.

Many thanks to all who attended the conference. If you weren't able to join us, we hope to have you with us next year!

Special thanks to Jon and Roxanne Callahan for their help with the 2009 leadership conference. Roxanne was a huge help behind the scenes preparing for the conference as well as a fantastic time keeper and red flag waver during the Support Group Spotlights, Town Hall Q&A session, and Highlights of Local Attractions. Jon was a delightful, witty MC who helped keep things flowing smoothly and on schedule throughout the day. You are both greatly appreciated!
