The 2007 Convention:  A Big Success!
By David Monk

More than 4,000 homeschoolers invaded the beautiful, new Phoenix Convention Center for our 24th annual Arizona Home Educators Convention and Curriculum Fair.

Kevin Swanson kicked off our event with high energy! Coming from his unique perspective as a homeschooled missionary boy, he entertained us with his wit, enlightened us with his observations on American culture, and enlightened us with his wisdom.

Little Bear Wheeler inspired packed out audiences (over 1,000 young people and adults!) with his stories of William Wallace, Sergeant York and others.

Rick and Marylin Boyer warmed our hearts with their charming southern country good sense and experience.

Saturday morning, HSLDA’s president, Mike Smith, educated us about the history of our movement and cautioned us to avoid the typical cycle from oppression to faith to freedom to apathy to oppression. If you missed this one, be sure to get this recording and listen to this significant message for homeschoolers of our day.

Speaking of recordings, Resounding Voice now has all recordings available at http://www.resoundingvoice.com/html/afhe2007.html   They offer CD’s for $6 and even a full set of MP3’s on CD for $150. If you were shopping during a session you wanted to hear, this is a great opportunity to get the best of both worlds!

New homeschoolers (and those deciding whether to homeschool) enjoyed an excellent two-part series by Mitzi Wisely reviewing the reasons to homeschool and how to get started.   Jan Bloom helped us remember the value of a home library and how to take care of it, and Elizabeth Smith clarified the reasons to homeschool teens.

In between all this great information, we made dashes to the basement to shop!  To top it all off, 74 Jr. High homeschool graduates participated in our graduate recognition ceremony on Friday night.   It was a great time.

We hope you will make plans to be with us next year, July 18-19, 2008 at the Phoenix Convention Center!
